How do you know when to call a service technician?
If your appliance won't start, check the power. If your refrigerator isn't cooling or the light doesn't come on, power may be the problem. Check that the receptacle and breaker are on.
Leaks are usually caused by loose connections. Check that fill and drain hoses are securely attached. For dishwasher and washer leaks around the door, check for obstructions at the seal.
Most appliances rely on air or water flow to function. If your dryer is taking longer to dry, check the venting. Make sure the tube behind the dryer is not kinked, and that the outdoor vent is not blocked.
Dishwashers likely have a filter that prevents waste from entering your plumbing. Build-up in this area could be restricting water flow, thus leaving dishes poorly cleaned. Also, stack dishes so they don't interrupt the path of the spray arm. Residue build-up should be cleaned regularly. Soap compartments and food strainer should be cleared after every load.
Dust building up on your refrigerator's condenser system should be vacuumed. It can cause unnecessary pressure that will shorten the lifespan of the cooling system. Your refrigerator usually has cold air supplied through the freezer. If the refrigerator section doesn't cool evenly, make sure the area around the fan is not over-stuffed.
If computerized controls seem to be locked or frozen, unplug the unit from the power supply for 10-15 minutes. If the problem persists, call for service.
If you recently purchased new equipment, read the use and care guide thoroughly. It will offer proper guidelines for installation and maintenance, and warranty coverage. Due to new technological advances or new energy efficient processes, your new appliance may not sound or function like your old one. Most warranties will not cover a service visit for cosmetics, education or issues caused by improper use or installation.
